Nothing’s Beautiful

words and music by Jim R. Malec and Rick Paul

I stood knee deep in the Tennessee River
Fishin’ had always been good for my soul
The current would carry my troubles away
But this time it left me cold and alone

I drove out west, saw a shaman
On a mesa in New Mexico
We sang and danced, and got high on peyote
I never felt so low

What a beautiful world
This used to be
Wasn’t so long ago I could see
But from the banks of the river up to heaven’s door
Without you nothing’s beautiful
Nothing’s beautiful anymore

I took a trip to the heart of the city
Heard so much ’bout those Hollywood nights
Maybe I’d sip champagne with some starlet
Or lose myself in those neon lights

But on that big city corner
Some bar band was playin’ our song
They sang it sweet, they played right notes
But somehow it all seemed wrong

What a beautiful world
This used to be
Wasn’t so long ago I could see
But from the Sunset Strip to the Malibu shore
Without you nothing’s beautiful
Nothing’s beautiful anymore

I could travel the world, but I still wouldn’t find
The feeling I had with you by my side

What a beautiful world
This used to be
Wasn’t so long ago I could see
But when I’m worlds away or just out my back door
Without you nothing’s beautiful
Without you nothing’s beautiful
Without you nothing’s beautiful
Nothing’s beautiful anymore
