A Rainy Day

words and music by Michael J. Parker and Rick Paul

Love Holds On cover art
From the album Love Holds On

There was a dress you never wore
That didn’t fit you anymore
In a box up in the attic gatherin’ dust
And that little red Corvette
With the old gray tarp on it
You never drove but never let ‘er rust
There was a glass jar in your bedroom
Full of money that you saved
And a hundred other pick me ups you’d hidden away
For a rainy day

Letters that you never mailed
Funny poems and fairy tales
Locked for ages in a old hope chest
Toys I wished for as a kid
You’d bought for me and hid
Forgot to give me when I’d done my best
And then when I was grown up
You would call and say
Why don’t you bring the family out this way
On a rainy day

I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain

Sarah wears the dress
And I gave Eric that Corvette
When he finally turned sixteen last month
And all their friends think it’s so cool
How I take them out of school
Some days just for fun to catch up
And, Mom, I miss you always
But when the sky turns from blue to gray
Tears start falling that I just can’t save
For a rainy day

I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain
I wish it would rain

I need a rainy day
Just one more rainy day
