A Place to Meet Jesus

words and music by Al Lowry and Rick Paul

A Place to Meet Jesus cover art
From the single A Place to Meet Jesus

I held Mama’s hand as we walked down the aisle
To the front of the church, where we knelt for a while
I beamed at the baby on top of the hay
I’d come to a place to meet Jesus

I’d just turned thirteen when Daddy left home
Got addicted to trouble and out of control
I was mad at the world for I didn’t know
I needed a place to meet Jesus

I reached for comfort, I reached for thrills
In whatever came my way
Surrounded by false friends, it took time to see
I was alone at the end of the day

Called to a hospital room, I cried
As a somber-faced doctor stood by Mama’s side
Her breathing was labored, I fell to my knees
I needed a place to meet Jesus

I reached for comfort, I reached for peace
As I went to the chapel to pray
I found a friend, though it took time to see
He’d been there through all of my days

I looked up at the cross, and I finally saw
I was loved, and I had been all along
Now wherever I wander, I’ll know true peace
For I’ve come to a place to meet Jesus
Yes, I’ve come to a place to meet Jesus
