I remembered to check the laundry room
Found that scarf you used to wear
Gathered up the things you missed
From the closet by the stairs
I even checked your dresser drawers
Found your brush and three barettes
Now if I could just remember to forget
I threw out all your cards and notes
Now my desk has much more space
Tore down that poster by Monet
Hung a dartboard in its place
Remembered all your secret spots
And tossed your cigarettes
Now if I could just remember to forget
When you left you packed so fast
You left too much behind
Perfume on your pillow, love songs in my mind
I thought that I could box it up
And start life fresh and free
But the Goodwill truck ain’t big enough
To take my memories
You left your house key in the hall
It can’t hurt to have one more
I’ll leave it on your keychain
And keep it in the drawer
Someday you might discover
There’s something that you left
Oh I hope you won’t remember to forget
Yes, someday you might discover
There’s something that you left
Oh I hope you won’t remember to forget
